Welcome.
This is a new venture at Reynolds Community College. We're trying to connect students, faculty, and the community to all things Early American in and around Richmond, Virginia.
We're Early American history and literature professors, so--by definition--we are Early American geeks. We love nothing better than going to a kiln opening at Williamsburg or a demonstration on open-hearth cooking. We play Early American games, go to Early American festivals, and go here folks talk about all things Early American.
There is no better place in the world to study Early American history and literature than Virginia and Richmond, and--yes--we know Boston and Philly are out there.
Oddly, our students don't share our fascination, and some (mistaken souls that they are) think the whole subject is boring. Who knew?
In an effort to share an obsession and as part of our own professional development, we decided to explore and publish fun trips, activities, and talks associated with Early American history and literature. The only limitation is that these must be doable as a day or field trip for our students.
If you have an event, activity, or suggestion for one, please share it with us at:
Carolyn Quenstedt at cquenstedt@reynolds.edu or Steve Brandon at sbrandon@reynolds.edu.
Again, well met, and welcome to all stuff Early American.
Geeks of the world unite!
Carolyn and Steve
